"If I had to choose one wine to show how great dry German Riesling can be I would choose a Keller Riesling. These wines are the German Montrachets."
-Jancis Robinson, MW
Winemaker: Klaus Peter Keller
Farming: Sustainable and Organic
Variety: Riesling (slightly off-dry)
Terroir: The limited production ’RR’ comes from a tiny 0.33ha island of red soil in an ocean of limestone in the Kirchspiel vineyard. This is the warmest section of the vineyard.
Vinification: Keller uses spontaneous fermentation and short skin-maceration for the Rieslings
Established in 1789, Keller has become the ONLY name to know in the Rheinhessen.
The RR comes from a parcel in the Kirchspiel vineyard that is planted on red soils, similar to the terres rouges to be found in Bonnes-Mares. This is the warmest section of the vineyard. In contrast, the Kirchspiel GG is limestone. The RR (=double Reserve or Really Rare) showing its best with slightly more residual sugar than the Kirchspiel GG. It’s absolutely delicious.
