Winemaker/Chef du Cave: Christianne Manin
Christianne Manin and her family operate a small market in the southern part of Ampuis, selling fresh fruits and vegetables that they grow on their small plot of land above their home in the Côte Brune. In addition to wonderful produce, the family as an incredibly small plot of 40-50 old Syrah vines (0.5 hectares) that sit on the slopes above their cellars. Because of the incredibly steep incline of the vineyard, they farm. Yields from the small vineyard are so precious, the bottles only 165 cases per year.
Grape Varieties: 100% Syrah
Soil Type: Ferruginous granite, with iron and schist
Vinification/Oak Usage: Hand harvested. Fermented 100% whole cluster in cement tank via indigenous yeast. Pressed to barrel using basket press.
Aging: 18 months in 550L barrel. Up to 1/3 new oak used each vintage. Bottled unfined & unfiltered.
Tasting Notes: An intensely dark Syrah that captures the floral and smoky side of the Côte-Rôtie. Full bodied, with biting tannins that are accented by perfumed violets, crushed black plums, candied blackberry and crushed blueberry. The finish is long, bright and grippy, with hints of tar and leather, making it a great pairing for any intense game meat or grilled foods, or to keep your cellar stocked while you exercise patience.
