CÔTES DU RHÔNE, NORTHERN RHÔNE, and RHÔNE VALLEY
FRANCE
  • Winemaker: Guillame Clusel
  • Farming: Organic
  • Variety: 100% Syrah
  • TerroirLes Vergers is a 4.5ha parcel of 10 to 15-year-old massale selection Serine-clone on southeast facing ferrous schist soils north of Ampuis. It takes its name from the area, as there is also old stone fruit (apricot, peach) orchards nearby. While not classified as Côte-Rotie, this single parcel exhibits a similar soil type and exposition as its more famous neighbor.
  • Vinification: Hand-harvested, partially destemmed and fermented with native yeast and very little new oak (<15%) is used in the cellar.
  • Aging: The wine then spends 6 months in stainless steel and 1 year in used oak barrels.
  • Tasting Note: wines with a fine structure that reveal aromas of red summer fruits, redcurrants, and raspberries.
  • Scores:"Complex, highly perfumed aromas of dark fruit liqueur, violet and olive gain urgency thanks to bright mineral and spice notes that expand with aeration. Juicy and sharply focused on the palate, offering intense boysenberry, bitter cherry and fruitcake flavors underscored by a smoky mineral nuance. Shows impressive power and energy and finishes spicy and very long, with resonating florality and slow-building tannins." -- Josh Raynolds, Vinous
