Farming: Organic

Grapes: 100% Sangiovese

Terroir: Chalky marl soil with an abundance of small stones, 350 meters elevation

Vinification: Harvested by hand during the first half of October. Fermentation and maceration on the skins for 24 days in stainless steel

Aging: Aged in 20hl Slavonian oak barrels for 15 months. Aged in glass-lined cement tank for additional 9 months. Rests in bottle for six months before release

Monica Raspi's family has been growing grapes and making wine in the Senese region of Chianti for over 150 years. In 2007, when Monica's mother retired from running the family winery, Monica was confronted with the idea of the family estate being sold. She couldn't bear the thought, and instead sold her own successfully veterinary clinic and took over the family winery.

Her first move was to convert the entire six-hectare property to organic farming. With the assistance of Ruggero Mazzilli, Villa Pomona's consulting agronomist and Filippo Paoletti, the consulting winemaker, Villa Pomona has become one of the area's top organic estates, producing powerful wines that are very classic in style.
