From our 2020 Q4 BOTTLE CLUB NOTES:

Armitage | ‘Meadowridge’ Pinot Noir | Santa Cruz Mountains  |  2018        Armitage is another neweer winery in the  Santa Cruz Mountains, founded by horticulturist Brandon Armitage. It was the world of plants that first brought Brandon to New Zealand, but eventually his energy was renewed when he discovered viticulture. Completing his degree in New Zealand, Brandon honed his winemaking skills alongside the Kiwis, and also in Oregon and California. After years of traveling and learning, Brandon felt his energies being pulled to the Santa Cruz Mountains, where he now farms a handful of sustainable and organic vineyards.

This bottling comes from Meadowridge Vineyard, a site located just outside of Corralitos, high above the Monterey Bay. The days here are consistently warm with very cool nights, allowing for a long growing season that produces a naturally robust and full-bodied Pinot Noir. Notes of raspberry, cocoa, and tart dark cherry make the wine luscious and warm. The finish has hints of vanilla and velvety  tannin, provided by 10 months in 25% new french oak. A great pairing for hearty meals on cool nights, you can enjoy this now after an hour or two of decanting, or cellar it for 3-5 years. — Simi Grewal
