Arnaud Lambert 2020 'Clos de Midi SPECIAL' Saumur Blanc, Loire Valley, France
A unique bottling from the Chenin master, this iteration of Clos du Midi comes from the upper portion of the lieu-dit, where there is a higher proportion of clay, creating a more powerful wine. Additionally, this special bottling sees some time aging in used and new barrels.
(Please note that the label for this limited cuvée is exactly the same as the normal normal Clos du Midi bottling.)
- Size: 3.5 ha (8.65 ac)
- Variety: Chenin Blanc
- Vine Age: Planted in 1985
- Terroir: Facing southeast, 70 cm of silty/ sandy clay soil on softer Turonian limestone rock
- Viticulture: Organic (certified)
- Vinification: Whole cluster pressed for 4.5 hours. Vinified in 90% in stainless steel and 10% old French oak barrels (7+ years old). Batonnage (stirring of the lees) is made toward the end of the primary fermentation and for some months after the wine is dry. This helps to “open up the wines” and work against reduction. The first SO2 addition is made just before bottling.
