Birgit Eichinger 2018 "Hasel" Grüner Veltliner, Kamptal, Austria
The winery was founded in 1992 by Birgit Eichinger and her husband Christian. She started out with 3.5 hectares of vineyards from her parents' vineyard holdings. Over time the vineyard area was expanded so that today fruit is sourced from more than 9 hectares in the best sites
Winemaker: Birgit Eichinger
Varieties: Gruner Veltliner
Terroir: The name for this site is derived from the the hazel bush, which thrives in the Kamptal region under the same moist conditions as the vines. 20-30 year old vines planted on loëss composed of quartz, limestone, mica and clay particles leftiver from the Ice Age.
Vinification: Gently pressed, the must was clarified for 20 hours by allowing it to settle and then fermented and stored in steel tanks.
Tasting Notes: This bottle provides major bang for the buck, displaying classic Gruner notes of white flowers, pulverized grey rocks, anjou pear and hints of lime zest. Refreshingly crisp across the palate, the acid-driven finish lingers for a while and makes you thirsty for more! Always a house favorite at DECANT!
