  • Winemaker name: Bruno Clair
  • Farming: Organic Farming, Lutte-raisonné
  • Varieties: Pinot Noir
  • Varieties: Pinot Noir
  • Terroir: 1.6 ha planted in 1989; Chambolle Véroilles is a site that's divided between Villages and 1er Cru status. The 1er Cru section sits next to Bonnes Mares. Clair's bottling comes from a section of Véroilles with particularly poor soils and that results in a seriously mineral and precise expression of Chambolle.
  • Vinification: Spontaneous yeast fermentation; 30% whole-cluster, indigenous yeast fermentation in open wooden tanks, minimal punch-downs and pump-overs (one each per day in general).
  • Aging: Aged for 18 months in barrel (20% new).
  • Tasting Note: Pleasingly perfumed with its airy aromas of red cherry, currant and discreet spice wisps. There is excellent intensity to the mineral-suffused and delineated medium weight flavors that display fine focus on the linear, youthfully austere and dusty finish.

Importer Notes:

One could say Bruno Clair is a vigneron’s vigneron. His wines are loved worldwide by everyone lucky enough to know them, and what’s truly impressive is the respect he garners within Burgundy, where his fellow growers consider him one of the greatest of their ranks. They admire his attention to detail in the vineyard, his organic practices (even if he doesn’t bother with certification), and the long hours he and his crews put in. In the cellar, along with his longtime enologist Philippe Brun (they have been called “the Batman and Robin of Marsannay”), Bruno produces wines that are loved for their purity of expression. They show no ego or even style, but just seem to be true to the essence of each individual vineyard.
