Located in Parnay, on the banks of the Loire River, Chateau Yvonne has been standing since the 1600s. In 1997,  Yvonne and Jean-François Lamunière and Francoise Foucault (Clos Rougeard) rehabilitated and converted to organic an abandoned vineyard until Matthieu Vallée took over the domaine in 2007. Because the previous owners worked so hard to bring the land back from the brink, he kept the name Chateau Yvonne to honor his predecessors. 

Today, Château Yvonne  is one of the best producers in Saumur, composed of 3 hectares of old vine Chenin Blanc, farmed organically since 1997 and biodynamically since 2012. All wines are hand harvested and produced with natural yeast and minimal intervention in the traditional underground cellar. Soil is key here- we are talking about tuffeau, a porous and fine grained limestone famous along the banks of the Loire River, and old vines gain intense concentration by working their roots through the soils into the bedrock to find water.

Grape Varieties: Chenin Blanc 

Soil Type: Clay limestone soils on Turonian Limestone, better known as tuffeau. 

Vinification/Oak Usage: 12 months in barrels (20% new), then assembled for 3 months in steel tanks “en masse” before bottling. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, on a fruit day during the Ascendant Moon. Aged for one year in bottle at the domaine before release.
