KRUG MV Rosé '24ème Edition', Champagne, France [375ml]

KRUG ID: 418037

The Greatest Champagne of All Time. Composed around the harvest of 2012

Farming: Sustainable

Winemaker: Eric Lebel (Julie Cavil was cellarmaster for this cuvée)

Krug Champagne was founded by Josef Krug in 1843 after leaving a prestigious post at another Champagne House. He refused to believe that great champagne could only be made in vintage years, and set out to offer the best champagne every year, regardless of climatic conditions.  By selecting specific parcels of fruit within vineyards and vinifying them individually in wood and stainless steel barrels, the winemaker is able to pull together the best possible wines from each vintage to create his final blend.

Krug Rosé is inspired by the dream of the fifth generation of the Krug family to conceive a rosé Champagne that did not yet exist, one that could be re-created each year. Every Édition of Krug Rosé perpetuates this legacy.

Krug Rosé is surprising, as it replaces a good red wine at the table with brio. This Champagne is a delicate blend of wines of the year with wines from selected plots of the House’s vast reserve library, completed with traditionally macerated Pinot Noir to add structure and spice. A rest of around seven years in Krug’s cellars gives Krug Rosé its refined elegance and character. As it is a half-bottle, it leaves the cellars earlier and we recommend that you enjoy it soon rather than keep it for later.

Grape Varieties: 40% Pinot Noir, 28% Chardonnay, 32% Meunier (22 wines from 7 different years, oldest wine from 2006, youngest wine from 2012)

Vinification/Oak Usage: Vinified in small neutral oak and stainless steel vessels.

Aging: This half-bottle spent at least 6 years in Krug's cellars developing its particular expression and elegance, receiving its cork in autumn 2018.

Tasting Notes: At first sight, its subtle pale pink colour holds a promise of elegance.
On the nose, aromas of rose hips, cured ham, mulberries, redcurrant, peony, pepper and pink grapefruit. On the palate, delicate flavours of honey, citrus and dried fruit with a long finish, enhanced by its fine bubbles complete the experience.

Scores: 95 Points, Wine Spectator: "The silky texture of this vivid Rosé Champagne draped the palate, offering an aromatic panoply of flavors, from pure raspberry and white peach fruit to ground cumin and anise, violet, graphite, spun honey and toasted almond. Delivers a long, mouthwatering finish."
