The Côte Roannaise is a small viticultural area covering 14 villages between the Loire Valley and Beaujolais in Central France. Technically part of the Loire Valley but actually much closer to Beaujolais, it is 50 km west of Morgon in the Monts de Madeleine, close to the Loire River's source in the Massif Central. This area is known for its Gamay Saint-Romaine, but also grows other varieties labeled not typically allowed under Loire Valley laws.

  • Winemaker: Stéphane & Carine Sérol
  • Farming: Biodynamic
  • Variety: Viognier, 20+ year old vines
  • Terroir: A single plot of Viognier planted on granite, with south facing, high elevation and cool climate.
  • Vinification: Hand harvested, fermented in stainless steel, 50% aged in neutral barrel and 50% aged in cement tank.
  • Tasting Note: Viognier?! Yes. Flabby or soapy? Absolutely not! Its high elevation & cool climate come through in high-toned citrusy aromatics and vibrant acidity. Peaches, persimmon, papaya, carrot.  The granite soil lends depth and complexity and makes this a great pairing wine.
