Domaine Stephane Ogier 2018 'Viognier de Rosine', Collines Rhodaniennes, Rhône Valley, France
Obsessed. Obsessed is what Cara Patricia is with the wines of Stephane Ogier. Michel Ogier was known for decades as a master of Côte Rôtie, Cara’s favorite appellation of the Northern Rhône. This winery really began in 1982, as prior to that, Michele Ogier sold his beautiful fruit to the likes of Guigal and Chapoutier. For many years starting in 1998, the Domaine was renamed M&S Ogier, as Michel’s son Stephane started taking more control in the cellars as his father aged. Since 2014, the Estate is now known as Stephane Ogier. Their holdings of syrah in star vineyards in Le Blonde and Le Brune make Côte-Rôtie that can see retail bottle prices over $500. Luckily for us, the Ogiers also have vineyards planted just outside of the famous appellation. La Rosine is a 14-acre vineyard that sits just between the southern border of Côte Rôtie and the neighboring white-wine village of Condrieu where he grows both Syrah and Viognier.

"Shimmering straw color. Vibrant, mineral-accented aromas and flavors of white peach and melon, with orange pith and floral elements gaining strength in the glass. Shows very sharp focus and a touch of spiciness courtesy of a hint of ginger. The floral touch carries a long, taut finish that leaves a repeating orange note behind."
