The Hendry famiy has owned property in Napa Valley since 1939, and so they know their land so well that they farm and bottle Block by Block. The importance of the vineyard is heavily stressed win their winemaking, and they’ve devoted much of their time with the land to understanding its variations on even the smallest scales.
Winemaker: Rafael and Luis Melgoza
Terroir: Thin stony soils and a moderate climate allow the production of a wide range of varietals. Morning fog and afternoon breezes from the San Pablo Bay moderate the climate, creating a transitional climate zone between the cooler Carneros region and the warmer northern reaches of the Napa Valley.
Vinification: The grapes are whole-cluster pressed, and the blocks are combined in stainless. The juice is fermented in stainless steel at temperatures ranging from 56º to 59ºF. Cool fermentation ensures preservation of the bright, fresh fruit flavors, and can require several weeks to complete. When alcoholic fermentation is completed, the wine remains in stainless steel until bottling.
Tasting Notes: Mouthwatering and refreshing, with green apple and lemon zest on the palate and plenty of lemon-lime acidity in the finish. This wine pairs particularly well with shrimp, crab, oysters and other shellfish; with white pizzas; fritto misto, Caesar salad and even sushi!
