Manincor 2018 "Réserva della Contessa" Bianco, Terlano Alto Adige, Italy
Manincor 2018 "Riserva della Contessa Bianco", Terlano Alto Adige
Pinot Blanc 55 %, Chardonnay 30%, Sauvignon Blanc 15% (aka Terlaner)
The Manincor Estate was established over 400 years ago in the hills of Alto Adige in northern Italy. Today, the estate is overseen by Count Michael Goess-Enzenberg and his wife. The Enzenbergs have been among the most prominent Tyrolean families for 800 years, and Count Michael has reinvested into the longevity of the estate by building a brand new winery in 2004, when he also launched the endeavor to covert the entire estate to Biodynamics, which he has now completed.
The Riserva della Contessa is a throwback to a style of wine that Michael's grandfather first established at Cantina Terlano, the region famous co-operative winery. This blend of Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from the two ditinct vineyard sites: “Liebeneich” site at Terlan and "Campan” vineyard at Kaltern. Liebeneich vineyard at Terlan is on a warm, west-facing slope at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level where the soil is well-drained consisting of sand and clay with a bedrock of eroded porphyry. Kaltern Campan is a cool, east-facing mountainside site at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level, where the soils are rich with clay and morainal deposits.
After being destemmed, the grapes macerate for 6 hours before completing native yeast fermentation in oak. The wine then ages on its fine lees for 8 months to gain further texture and complexity.
