Niepoort 2018 'Rótulo' Tinto, Dão, Portugal
- Winemaker: José Nogueira, Nicholas Delaforce
- Varieties: Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Tinta Pinheira, Alfrocheiro
- Farming: Biodynamic
- Terroir: 30 to 80 year old vines planted in granite soils.
- Vinification: Hand-picked and fermented in cement and stainless steel.
- Aging: cement tanks, bottled unfiltered.
- Tasting Notes: The wine boasts a beautiful ruby hue and medium body. Elegant, fruity aromas with notes of black plum, hints of spice (especially black pepper) as well as floral and balsamic nuances. The finish is mineral-driven and distinctly elegant, with forest and spicy notes taking centre stage, and acidity and fruitiness balance each other out perfectly.
Since Niepoort purchased Quinta de Lomba in 2012, they have been procuring vineyard blocks, including some very old sites, which express the memorable character of the region. Its mountainous microclimate in the foothills of the Serra da Estrela range make this 200-year-old estate unique. The grapes are sourced from the Gouveia and Vila Nova de Tázem vineyards.
