Padelletti 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, Tuscany, Italy

  • Winemaker: Claudia Susanna Padelletti
  • Farming: Organic
  • Varieties: Sangiovese
  • Terroir: Their 4ha parcel (called Rigaccini Secondo) is in the higher elevation (@400m) classico zone around the town of Montalcino. The Padelletti’s have been farming grapes here since 1570. The soil here is medium-textured loam, rich in sandstone and alberese limestone with some galestro marl. The Sangiovese for their riserva bottling come from their oldest vines around 50 years old.
  • Vinification: Fermentation in small cement tanks with indigenous yeasts. FOr their riserva the wine stays on the skins for 5 weeks until being transferred to big Slavonian Botti for 3 years.
  • Score / Accolades: 96 points from Kerin O’Keefe of Wine Enthusiast from May 2018: This classic, fragrant Brunello boasts aromas of new leather, pipe tobacco, fragrant purple flower and balsamic notes of eucalyptus. It's elegant and savory, doling out juicy wild cherry, raspberry preserve, cinnamon and star anise set against firm polished tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced and ensures good aging potential. A lovely wine. Drink 2020–2032.
  • The 2012 vintage received 5/5 stars from the Brunello Consorzio
