Founded in 1994 by Anthony Hamilton Russell, named for the 'Southern Right' whales which can be spotted in just off the coast.

Terroir: Coastal, cool climate. 2km from South Atlantic Ocean. Clay-rich shale-derived soil 44%, Table Mountain Sandstone-derived soil 56%. (Hemel-en-Aarde Valley 7%, Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley 44%, Walker Bay 49%)
Vinification: 8% Barrel fermented in neutral barrels, 92% stainless steel.
Aging: Stainless steel, released April 2021
Scores: 90 Neal Martin, Vinous, April 2021 - The 2020 Sauvignon Blanc has a refined bouquet of lime and orange pith, Granny Smith apples and crushed stone. The well-balanced palate is fresh and saline on the entry, with delicate touches of lemon and lime toward the finish. Lovely.
