The vineyards for Vina Coterro are spread across the municipality of  Alfaro in La Rioja on the fertile banks of the Ebro on the low slopes of  the Yerga Mountain.  This area offers a huge diversity of soil and microclimates, supporting a wide range of different grape varietals.   This is a collaboration with Bodegas Burgo Viejo, Master of Wine  Fernando Mora, and Valkyrie Selections - a classic, quality Rioja that  is emblematic of the region.

  • Variety: 80% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano & 10% Garnacha
  • Farming: Organic.
  • Terroir:   Sourced from vineyards with an average age of 30 years in Rioja  Alta with the Graciano and Garnacha components from municipality of  Alfaro on the fertile banks of the Ebro on the low slopes of the Yerga  Mountain. Rioja was the first Spanish wine region to obtain DO status, in 1925.  In 1991, it was promoted to DOCa (Qualified Designation of Origin), a  higher category reserved for wines maintaining a proven consistency and  quality over a long period of time. Rioja has three distinct subregions  (Alavesa, Alta & Baja) as well as stylistic diversity ranging from  the traditional oxidative wines to the full-throttle modern style.
  • Vinification: Primary fermentation in stainless steel followed by malolactic in concrete tanks
  • Aging: 12 months aging in American oak
  • Tasting Notes:   Bright raspberry and cherry aromas highlight this  medium-bodied, classic style Rioja. These red fruit flavors carry over  to the palate, picking up smoky and tobacco notes in addition to vanilla  accents. The wine is smooth and generous, finding balance between sweet  and bitter, plush and structured.
