Vietti 2020 "Trevigne" Barbera d'Asti, Piemonte, Italy
The Vietti family has been synonymous with the rich history of Barolo for over 150 years. While most prominently known in the wine world for their extensive single-vineyard holdings of Nebbiolo, the family has always had an incredible record of producing phenomenal bottlings of Piedmont’s less celebrated grapes, like Moscato, Arneis, and one of our favorites, Barbera.

Varieties: 100% Barbera
Terroir: The grapes are selected from three vineyards in Agliano Terme, in the hills around Asti.
Vinification: The process starts with a cold maceration in stainless steels, then the must is fermented for approximately 2 weeks, with daily pumpovers. After this, the wine macerates for another week, then it is racked and it is moved to oak for malolactic. Aged in barriques, big oak barrels and steel tanks for approximately 18 months.
Tasting Notes: Red sour red cherry, freshly tilled earth and tart black currants come together under a well-structured, medium-bodied, tannic wine, with a bright, acid-driven finish.
‘Tre Vigne’ is the Vietti family’s entry-level Barbera d’Asti, but for a family that is known for impeccable attention to detail, the wine’s power and elegance show just that Alfredo Currado and his wife Elena don’t think of it as an afterthought. Blended from three hillside vineyards around Asti and aged in a mix of wood and steel for 18 months, this Barbera is a classic representation of Piemontese Barbera--lean sour red cherry, freshly tilled earth and tart black currants come together under a well-structured, medium-bodied, tannic wine.
