Villa Guelpa 2018 'Longitudine 8.11' Rosato, Alto Piemonte, Italy
Daniele Dinoia founded Villa Guelpa with a goal of creating wines that express the rich and varied soils across his four hectares of vineyards in Alto Piemonte. He and his sons organically farm primarily Nebbiolo, Vespolina, and Erbaluce. Although the estate produces very limited quantities of all the wines, smaller still are the amounts of Sizzano, a traditional blend of Nebbiolo and Vespolina.
Winemaker: Daniele Dinoia
Farming: Organic
Variety: 80% Nebbiolo, 20% Pinot Noir
Terroir: 15 year old vines. Morainic deposits, with layers of pebbles
Vinification: Destemming and soft crushing and spontaneous fermentation. Maceration for 4 hours. 9 months in cement vats and further aging in bottle
Tasting Notes: Savory and lean, this medium bodied rose conveys a serious palate, best suited for savory meals, cured meats or sharp cheeses. A bit of age give it an umami-driven palate, with notes of dried strawberry, fenugreek and wet limestone.
