Vincent Charlot 2013 'L'Or des Basses Ronces' Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut, Champagne, France

Winemaker: Vincent Charlot

Farming: Biodynamic

Varieties: Chardonnay (100% Blanc de Blancs)

Terroir: The Côteaux d’Épernay, where Charlot’s vineyards are located, is a sub region of the Vallée de la Marne. The soil is predominantly chalk with some proportions of clay and silex, depending on each site. The soil, combined with the cool continental climate of the north, helps craft wines with tenacity, structure and great acidic tension. This parcel is 0.40 ha on soft chalk topsoil (40cm deep) and bedrock.

Vinification: After fermentation it is aged in old French barrels for eleven months without a Malolactic fermentation. It’s unfined, unfiltered, and the dosage is 4g/L

Aging: 5 years on lees

Vincent Charlot is a master of organic and biodynamic viticulture. Within moments of meeting Vincent, you know you’re in for it. Descending from a long lineage of family cooperatives, the passionate and eager Vincent took over the family business in 2001 and began
to bottle his own wines. One of the few vignerons in the biodynamic wine world to grow and make his own biodynamic preparations, he is a strong advocate that any malady in the vineyard can be managed homeopathically. To spend the afternoon with Charlot, means you will not
only witness his remarkable knowledge of the complex microcosm that are his thriving vineyards, but also you will see the rich biodiversity that populates them, including various species of strawberries and carrots that grow wild, bees pollinating the lavender bushes and mushrooms
that sprout between the vines as if to boast its healthy terroir. It is not only a visual experience, but also a spiritual one.
