Viña Zorzal Garnacha Blanca, Navarra, Spain 2021

Viña Zorzal is located in the Southern part of the Navarra DO, very close to the border of Rioja. Founded by Antonio Sanz in in 1989, the guiding principles here have always been sustainability and a return to historical grape varieties. With the coming of age of Antonio's three sons, Xabier, Iñaki and Mikel, the winery Viña Zorzal (aka “thrush", like the bird) was born. Like so many father/son stories, the children have adopted the idea of the father and taken it further. The farming is now organic with cover crops between rows and the focus is on making higher quality, site specific wines that respect history but also look to a brighter future. They make a series of single varietal wines focusing on native Navarran grapes. Most of the 40 ha vineyards are in pure rocky stony soils (rather than the overcropped flats of Navarra).

• Vinification: Destemmed grapes, cold-macerated, extracting the free-run juice after few hours of skin contact.The resulting grape must was then fermented using just indigenous yeasts. Once fermentation concluded, the wine
  was kept with its lees in 1200-liter Flextank and in 500-liter barrels for 7 months.
  
• TASTING NOTES: Clean, medium intensity aromas of citrus fruit and stone such us peach and apricot, soft mineral notes. Dry and fresh, medium body. Stone fruits flavours and a long finish
