René & Thérèse Lamy-Pillot’s winery is located in the heart of the village of Chassagne-Montrachet and his family have been winegrowers here since the middle of the 17th Century. Renés brother is the famed Hubert Lamy, and they have elevated the region with marvelous interpretations of Saint-Aubin crus.

Lamy-Pillot own 22 hectares of vineyards, mostly in the appellations of Saint-Aubin and Chassagne Montrachet, producing both white and red wines. They are also part of the 15 only privileged proprietors of the most prestigious Cotes de Beaune Grand Cru: Le Montrachet, with 0.0542 hectare making around 300 bottles each year. Florence and Karine, René and Thérèse Lamy-Pillot’s daughters, and their husbands Sébastien and Daniel, have joined them on the estate.

  • Winemaker: Daniel Cadot,
  • Variety: Chardonnay
  • Farming: Sustainable
  • Terroir: This 1.16-acre Premier Cru is located on the Montrachet side of Saint-Aubin and the lime-stone is from the slightly later Argovian era, where there is more chalky marl and less clay.
  • Vinification: Hand harvested in small crates, hand-sorted.
  • Aging: 12 to 18 months (varies each vintages) in barrels with only 25% new oak, from different areas of France and Eastern Europe.
  • Tasting Notes: Le Charmois has a great vibrancy and texture with a lovely nose of white peaches and zesty lemon notes with a lingering finish.
  • Food Pairing: Textured fish and grilled or steamed crustaceans
  • Scores: 94 Points, Decanter. The east-facing slopes bordering Chassagne have produced a wine of impressive complexity with notes of lime peel and guava and a markedly riper, denser, and longer texture than the village-level wine from Les Pucelles. Sébastien Caillat relates that although there is good vine material in both vineyards, the natural advantages of Le Charmois deliver a wine with more substance and balance. This wine should open well in three to five years in the bottle; it is perfect for mid-term cellaring.
