Artuke’s Arturo Miguel is a quiet but influential leader of a new movement of young Spanish vignerons in Rioja, the country’s most historically famous region. The agenda is to bring attention back to specific terroirs and return the power to the growers themselves. He is the second generation of his family to grow and bottle their own wines since the end of the dictatorship, and when he took control of the family’s vineyards, he converted them all to organic farming. The name ARTUKE is a combination of Arturo's name, and his brother Kike's name.

The de Miguel brothers reject the confines of Rioja’s classification system based on time and type of aging. Their focus is to capture the purest, most vivid expressions possible of the extraordinary terroirs they work, clustered around the towns of Baños de Ebro, Ábalos, San Vicente de Sonsierra and Samaniego, all north of the Ebro River.

  • Winemaker: Arturo Miguel
  • Farming: Organic certified, biodynamic practicing
  • Grape Varieties: 100% Tempranillo
  • Soils / Terroir: Single vineyard on a sloped high-altitude site just below limestone bluffs on limestone bedrock with very rocky, clay-rich topsoil.
  • Vinification: Natural fermentation in steel.
  • Aging: 12 months in old 3,500L barrels
  • Tasting Notes: An elegant medium bodied wine with luscious texture and firm structure on the palate. Aromas of fresh red cherry, dried red currant, red licorice and hints of menthol. Welcoming, fresh and vibrant, it drinks very well now, but can be held for 7-10 years.
