VINHO VERDE and MINHO
PORTUGAL

Quinta de Santa Teresa is located on the boarder of Vinho Verde and the Douro, with arranged terraces separated by granite walls. This makes it the perfect environment for Avesso, a varietal of remarkable acidity with conditions to ripen fully and reveal its true aging potential.

  • Winemaker: Alexandre and Dialina Gomes
  • Farming: Certified Organic
  • Variety: Field blend of Avesso, Arinto, Alvarinho and Malvasia.
  • Terroir: Cool, maritime climate with predominantly granitic soils
  • Vinification: Hand-harvested grapes arrive to the winery in 24kgs boxes. They are hand-selected and destemmed before going through skin contact process and a gentle pneumatic press. 90% of the must ferments in stainless steel vats at low temperature, the other 10% fermenting in oak barrels.
  • Aging: After fermentation the wine stays on its fine lees, with batonnage, for a long period. Stabilization and tender filtration take place. Bottled in April of 2021.
  • Tasting Note: This is *not* a spritzy style Vinho Verde, but instead a rich and round style made with native grapes and long lees-aging. Complex notes of orange oil, hazelnut, white pepper, and white flowers.
  • Vegan

Quinta de Teresa Singular Vinho Verde, Portugal 2019
Under the skillful guidance of winemakers Alexandre and Dialina Gomes, this organic bottling of Vinho Verde allows you to capture the heart of the region in just one sip. Here, amidst the cool influence of a maritime climate and the embrace of predominantly granitic soils, a field blend of Avesso, Arinto, Alvarinho, and Malvasia grapes harvested from the Quinta de Teresa estate create a truly yummy wine. Most Vinho Verde that we are exposed to in the U.S. is thought of as cheap and cheerful--rarely complex and ethereal. But Alexandre and Dialina focus on creating the highest quality wines from their stellar vineyards sites. For this bottling of 'Singular', the fruit is sourced from Quinta de Teresa, a 33-hectare area of contiguous vineyards in the Vinho Verde region (sub-region of Baião), just on the border with the Douro region.

With meticulous care, hand-harvested grapes arrive at the winery in 53lb boxes to begin their vinification journey. Hand-selected and gently destemmed, they embark on a whirlwind adventure, with a bit of skin contact maceration before hitting the pneumatic press. They then settle into fermentation and aging in stainless steel vats and oak barrels. As it ages, the wine luxuriates on its fine lees, indulging in the gentle embrace of batonnage, before emerging in April of 2021, bottled and ready to enchant. This is no ordinary Vinho Verde—it's a rich and round symphony of native grapes and long lees-aging, offering a tapestry of flavors including passionfruit, green guava, freshly peeled clementines, and damp limestone. The palate is surprisingly textural, with the aromas of the nose becoming lush and full on the palate. The wine finishes clean and crisp, with mouthwatering acidity, but leaves a lingering impact of citrus blossom on the finish. It will pair amazingly well with nearly anything, but will shine with spicy, rich flavors or very simply grilled seafood.  — Simi Grewal
