LOIRE VALLEY
FRANCE

The Côte Roannaise is a small viticultural area covering 14 villages between the Loire Valley and Beaujolais in Central France. Technically part of the Loire Valley but actually much closer to Beaujolais, it is 50 km west of Morgon in the Monts de Madeleine, close to the Loire River's source in the Massif Central. This area is known for its Gamay Saint-Romaine, but also grows other varieties labeled not typically allowed under Loire Valley laws.

  • Winemaker: Stéphane & Carine Sérol
  • Farming: Organic
  • Variety: Gamay
  • Vinification: Ancestrale method (Pét-Nat) sparkling. Direct press gamay into tank, alcoholic fermentation at low temperature with indigenous yeasts until the wine reaches 8% alcohol. The wine is then bottled and fermentation continues until the wine reaches 8% alcohol and 5 bars of pressure. The bottles are then disgorged to remove the deposit.
  • Tasting Note: With 8g of residual sugar, this effervescent pre-nat has just a touch of sweetness to balance the edgy bite of cool-climate Gamay. 9.5% ABV
