Peay Vineyards 2015 "La Bruma" Estate Syrah, Sonoma Coast

Based in the west Sonoma Coast, Peay Vineyards focuses on terroir-driven, single-variety wines that underscore the beautiful expressions of the coastline's rugged terroir.

Winemaker: Vanessa Wong

Farming: Practicing organic

Variety: Syrah {Clones: 35% 470; 33% Hermitage “Suitcase”; 16% 174; 10% Estrella “Chapoutier”; 6% clone 1}

Terroir / Soil: 4 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, with a strong cool climate influence. Uplifted ancient seabed, mingles with sandy loam and hints of clay.

Vinification: All clones from single vineyards are tasted blindly out of barrel to create the best possible blend from the vineyard that expresses its terroir. 10% whole cluster

Aging: aged on lees for 15 months in 22% new Sirugue, Damy and Ermitage French oak barrels. Bottled unfined and unfiltered

Tasting Notes:  La Bruma features more of the blue fruit and floral character of the variety though it is not soft and juicy. The frame of the wine is taut with a spine of acidity and aromas of slate, leather, and dried blood lingering on the finish. The 2017 La Bruma is yummy now and will get better with even more time in the bottle and your decanter. 223 cases made.
